Attention Golfers!
If you play golf, we need YOU.
Populations of red-headed woodpeckers are declining; one reason is that we are losing their preferred habitat, oak savanna. The good news is that golf courses with oak savanna-type habitat can be managed to promote good habitat for these birds and help them thrive. There is a red-headed woodpecker recovery project underway and we are looking for help from birders who play golf.
We need to know which Minnesota golf courses currently have red-headed woodpeckers. If you see these birds on a course where you play, please send a quick note to basample@visi.com and tell us the name of the course and course location (Minnesota only, for now). We will follow-up and document information about their nest site habitat.
Go to www.redheadrecovery.org for more information about this beautiful bird and the recovery project. Please join us - and thanks for your help!
